9 May - on this Europe Day we are on the road to better working conditions in Europe
Never more so than today in 2017, when we celebrate the 60 years of the Rome Treaties and the peace and unity in Europe, is it important to highlight the current key priority for the European Commission to build a fairer Europe with better working and living conditions.
The European Pillar of Social Rights sets out the ambition to go beyond the actual acquis, fostering a high level of protection for workers from occupational safety and health (OSH) risks. Workers have the right to a working environment adapted to their specific occupational circumstances.
EU-OSHA is seen as playing a key role in helping micro-enterprises and SMEs comply with OSH rules, by further fostering the development of relevant OSH e-tools. The Healthy Workplaces Campaigns are also seen as EU-OSHA’s essential contribution to collection and dissemination of good practice and experience sharing.
The Healthy Workplaces for All Ages campaign 2016-17, in accordance with the principle of active ageing, promotes the need to adapt the working environment to enable workers to have sustainable and longer working careers. And the next Healthy Workplaces campaign 2018-19 focused on dangerous substances will, among other things, support Commission’s efforts to fight occupational cancer.
